He said the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was offered a 50:50 seat-sharing formula along with the chief minister’s post for two-and-a-half years. However, party president Vijay declined the offer. Arjuna did not name the party that had approached TVK for an electoral alliance.

TVK general secretary Aadhav Arjuna has stated that party leader Vijay was offered the chief minister’s post and even 50 per cent Assembly seats by another party ahead of the upcoming elections.

The TVK is set to make its electoral debut in the Assembly elections scheduled for April 23.

During a recent interaction with mediapersons, Edappadi K Palaniswami, AIADMK general secretary, said his party was not in talks with the TVK for any alliance. Nainar Nagenthran, BJP state chief, also supported this position. However, there has been speculation that sources close to the BJP had tried to reach out to TVK for a possible tie-up against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

“Vijay is not a person who will succumb to Delhi for the sake of the chief minister’s post. They gave us all kinds of offers - from 50 to 90 seats. All that Vijay said was that he wanted the trust of Tamil Nadu people not the CM’s post,” Arjuna said while addressing a TVK meeting in Kolathur on Tuesday night.

He added that the TVK will emerge as a strong political force. The party plans to contest all 234 constituencies and aims to form a secular, social justice-oriented government. He said this was also the message he wanted to convey to Christian and Muslim communities.
