The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Monday dismissed as 'false' reports that claimed talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party–AIADMK alliance to form an alliance for the Assembly elections. The party also alleged that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) was behind such rumours aimed at creating confusion.

CTR Nirmal Kumar, deputy general secretary of TVK, said some media outlets and social media accounts were spreading false information in an attempt to gain political mileage.

He said the claims about talks for an alliance between TVK and the BJP-AIADMK combine, as well as parties led by VK Sasikala and S. Ramadoss, were completely untrue. Kumar, who is also the party’s principal spokesperson, said this in a statement.

"We would like to make it categorical that no talks of any kind have taken place with any specific parties or political leaders at any level," he said. He added that the same tactic of spreading false information had earlier been used to link TVK with different political parties, including the Indian National Congress, though those claims were widely known to be untrue.

Nevertheless, such 'baseless news' was being spread by 'DMK members"' to continuously create confusion among the public and workers, the TVK leader alleged. "Truth alone will triumph... Responsible media outlets and social media users, please do not share rumours," he said and urged everyone to check the authenticity of claims before circulating it.

On March 15, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, general secretary of the AIADMK, said neither his party nor its allies had held talks with the TVK led by actor-politician Vijay regarding the April 23 Assembly polls.

Speaking to mediapersons at an Iftar event organised by the party on Sunday, Palaniswami, who was joined by Nainar Nagenthran, the Tamil Nadu BJP chief, and T. T. V. Dhinakaran of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), said no such talks had taken place. Responding to a question on whether he wanted TVK to join the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, he said that neither the AIADMK nor its alliance partners had discussed forming an alliance with the party mentioned by reporters.

Palaniswami’s remark on Sunday was the third time he had made such a clarification. Earlier, on March 11 and March 14, he had also ruled out any possibility of an alliance with TVK and described such reports as mere media speculation.
