The President of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, has urged the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) that the party be duly included in all consultations and discussions convened by the State Election Commissioner and Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu, regarding the upcoming election.
In a letter to the CEC on Saturday, Vijay stated that the party has established a visible and demonstrable presence across Tamil Nadu and will be contesting the forthcoming elections across the state. "We are firmly committed to advancing the democratic process in a manner that ensures every citizen’s voice is heard. In this context, we respectfully submit that ensuring a level playing field for all political parties, recognised, or otherwise, forms an integral part of the basic structure of the Constitution," he said.
He contended that TVK is currently being disallowed and/or excluded from participating in the consultative meetings. He warned that this undermines equality in participation, which is vital to maintaining public confidence in the fairness of the electoral system.
Vijay argued that the non-inclusion of TVK in the consultative meetings convened by the office of the State Election Commissioner, concerning preparatory electoral processes, has the effect of excluding a considerable section of the electorate from participatory oversight in such matters.
"In the interest of upholding the highest standards of transparency and inclusivity, we most humbly request that TVK be extended due notice and invited to participate in all future meetings, consultations and coordination exercises concerning the subsequent election preparations in Tamil Nadu," he requested.
Finally, Vijay urged the CEC to issue appropriate directions to the State Election Commission and Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu, to ensure that TVK is duly included in all consultations and discussions convened with political parties in relation to the upcoming elections.
