As TVK chief Vijay touched down in Chennai following a marathon seven-hour interrogation by the CBI, party general secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar addressed the media to project a sense of stability. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Nirmal Kumar emphasised that the party remains "very clear" about its ideological direction. When pressed on potential partnerships for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he remained non-committal, stating that while the party knows exactly where it stands, the leader will "take a call" if and when alliance talks actually materialise.
The political tension surrounding Vijay is currently compounded by the legal limbo of his final film, Jana Nayagan. The movie's release has been stalled because of certification delays, a move that has drawn sharp criticism from national figures like Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi took to social media to call the I&B Ministry’s block an "attack on Tamil culture," asserting that the central government would not succeed in silencing the voice of the people. Nirmal Kumar echoed the sentiment of the fans, noting that as Vijay’s swan song, there is an immense emotional attachment to the film, and the party simply wants it to see a "peaceful release" once the court proceedings conclude.
Meanwhile, this does not bring any much-needed relief for Vijay as he returns to Chennai. The questioning in Delhi was related to the stampede at Karur in September 2025, which killed 41 people. The CBI has permitted him to go home for the Pongal celebrations and later informed that the interrogation is continuing and will be called again for questioning.
Despite the intense scrutiny, the seven-hour examination at the headquarters of the CBI was unable to dent the massive support the actor-turned-politician enjoys, with his fans keeping a constant vigil outside the office of the agency during his interrogation.
