Two people were arrested for attacking a sub-inspector (SI) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, who was seriously injured during a confrontation with a group of armed criminals on Sunday evening, officials said on Monday.
The incident took place at Gurrah Morh on the outskirts of Jammu city at around 8.30 pm, a police spokesperson said.
The officer, Sub-Inspector Nitin Khajuria, was on duty when a group of armed men attacked him. The attackers, who arrived in a Mahindra Thar, allegedly stopped the officer and attacked him with a sharp weapon, causing serious injuries, the spokesperson said.
The armed goons later brandished a pistol before fleeing the scene.
Police immediately launched a manhunt and apprehended two suspects, identified as Rishabh Sharma and Munna D, while the search for the other two accused is ongoing, officials said on Monday.
He said the SI was shifted to the GMC Hospital for treatment, and a case has been registered.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the J&K Police arrested a long-absconding and notorious criminal wanted in a case. The arrested individual, identified as Mohammad Ayaz, alias Shantoo, of Gujjar Nagar, Jammu, is a known associate of the Royal Singh gang.
He was wanted in FIR number 06/2025 registered under Sections 109 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), a police official said.
Gang-related crimes have surged across the Jammu division over the past few years, leading to increased armed confrontations between the Jammu and Kashmir Police and notorious gangs.
