Assam Police on Friday pushed back two Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross the international border in Karimganj district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.
The individuals, identified as Dilara Begum and Shoel Hawladar, were apprehended under the state's zero-tolerance policy towards illegal infiltration.
Sarma noted that on Thursday, four other Bangladeshi nationals—Romida Begum, Abdul Elahi, Marijna Begum, and Abdul Sukkur—were also pushed back after being detected near the border in the same district. In a post on X, Sarma commended the police for their efforts, stating, "Good job Team!"
This month, over 25 Bangladeshis have been turned away, with approximately 50 pushed back since August, amid ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh. The Chief Minister explained that many of these illegal immigrants use Assam as a transit point to reach southern cities for employment in the textile industry.
The Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified monitoring along the 1,885 km Indo-Bangladesh border in the Northeast, while Assam Police maintain a high alert to prevent illegal entries. Director General of Police GP Singh emphasised the importance of vigilance in safeguarding the state's borders.
