A day after recovering 27 pistols and 470 cartridges, the Fazilka police arrested two arms smugglers belonging to the district on Friday and seized another consignment of arms and ammunition smuggled from Pakistan through the floodwaters. The seizure includes 16 pistols, 38 magazines and 1,847 cartridges.
The police said that acting on a tip-off, they nabbed Gurwinder Singh, alias Gindu, a resident of Jhok Dipolana village, and Sona Singh, a resident of Mahatam Nagar village, near Theh Qalandar village on the Fazilka-Ferozepur highway, along with the consignment.
“Acting on a specific tip-off, @FazilkaPolice busts a cross-border weapon smuggling module with links to #Pakistan and arrests two persons backed by foreign-based handlers and recovers 18 pistols, 1847 cartridges & 42 magazines,” DGP Gaurav Yadav posted on X. He said further investigations are underway to trace the forward and backward linkages, identify all members involved and unravel the smuggling network.
