Two people lost their lives and three others were injured after debris fell from a hillside near Junglechatti on the Kedarnath trekking route around 11:20 am on Wednesday, the Uttarakhand Police said.
Responding swiftly to the incident, teams from the police and District Disaster Relief Force (DDRF) reached the site, rescued the injured, and shifted them to Gaurikund for medical treatment.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Uttarakhand Police stated, “Today at 11:20 am, some travellers and dandi/kandi carriers were hit by falling debris near Junglechatti. SDRF and police teams rescued the three injured and sent them to Gaurikund. Two travellers were confirmed dead. Their identities are being verified. Traffic on the travel route continues under police surveillance”
Police have placed the area under surveillance. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
