Two men were killed and a woman suffered serious injuries after an SUV met with an accident near Sawal village in Sultanpur Lodhi subdivision of Punjab's Kapurthala district on Wednesday night.
Police said the SUV was travelling from Sultanpur Lodhi towards Talwandi Chaudhrian when the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle first hit a roadside tree, then crashed through the iron fence of a private school before striking another tree.
The collision was extremely severe and left the SUV badly damaged. Vehicle parts, including tyres and window pieces, were scattered across the road.
Rahul Gill, a resident of Bidhipur village in Sultanpur Lodhi, died on the spot. His body was later shifted to the mortuary of Civil Hospital, Sultanpur Lodhi.
The other occupants, 17-year-old Lahugli from Talwandi Bootian village in Jalandhar district and Anjana Rani, 23, wife of Rahul Gill, were taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
Lahugli later died while undergoing treatment. Anjana Rani remains in critical condition and was referred to a higher medical facility after receiving first aid. After receiving information about the accident, local police reached the scene and began an investigation.
Police suspect that overspeeding or loss of control may have caused the crash. However, the exact cause will be known only after the investigation is completed.
