Two die after being struck by lightning in Tungnath-Chopta

Two brothers from Lucknow died after lightning struck during a severe storm in Uttarakhand's Tungnath-Chopta region, leaving two others injured.


Two brothers from Lucknow died after they were struck by lightning during a severe storm at Tungnath-Chopta in the Rudraprayag district. Two of the deceased companions sustained serious injuries, officials said on Saturday.
 
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar informed that on Friday evening, authorities received reports of tourists stranded at Tungnath-Chopta amid adverse weather conditions, including a fierce storm and heavy rain. The officials immediately dispatched a rescue team to the spot.
 
He said personnel launched rescue and relief operations upon reaching the area, and evacuated the critically injured despite challenging weather conditions. Ambulances shifted the injured to the Ukhimath hospital.
 
According to the officials, the deceased, Abhinav Vajpayee (19) and his elder brother Abhishek Vajpayee (22), were both residents of Lucknow. They reportedly died after being struck by lightning during the storm.
 
Residents said the sudden, intense storm in the Tungnath-Chopta region on Friday evening created panic and left tourists stranded.
