Amritsar Police recovers 6 kg heroin.

The Amritsar Rural Police arrested two key drug traffickers near Bhakna village and seized 6 kg of high-grade heroin. Acting on specific intelligence, a police team intercepted the accused, identified as Gurditta alias Kalu and Captain, while they were transporting the heroin consignment on a motorcycle.

Officials confirmed on Sunday that the seized heroin was smuggled into India by handlers based in Pakistan and was intended for distribution across various parts of Punjab. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Gharinda. The police said another accused in the case is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations are ongoing to map the broader drug supply network and its cross-border linkages.

In a related development on Friday, the Counter Intelligence (CI) unit of the Punjab Police in Amritsar busted a cross-border illegal arms smuggling network with deep ties to Pakistan. Two operatives, Sukhchain Singh of Daoke and Jugraj Singh of Bhakna Kalan in Amritsar, were arrested during the operation.

The police recovered eight sophisticated pistols from the duo, including three 9mm Glocks, four Px5s, and one .30-bore pistol. A black motorcycle used to transport the weapon consignments was also impounded.

According to DGP Yadav, the accused were working on the instructions of a Pakistan-based smuggler identified as Noor, a resident of Manihala. Noor allegedly used drones to drop arms consignments across the border. The arrested men were distributing these weapons to gangsters across Punjab, intending to fuel criminal activities in the state.

The CI unit acted on specific intelligence about a drone-dropped consignment near Bhaini Rajputtan village in the jurisdiction of Gharinda Police Station. The successful operation has further disrupted cross-border criminal networks operating in the region.

The Punjab Police continues to maintain heightened vigilance along the border to counter the twin threats of narcotics and illegal arms smuggling.
