Two women have been arrested in the Damtal area of Himachal Pradesh, bordering Pathankot, for allegedly peddling drugs. The arrests were made as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign in the hill state, police said.
The duo, apprehended from their residence in Channi, Tehsil Indora, Kangra district, were found in possession of 17.91 grams of heroin, also known locally as ‘chitta’, during a raid conducted by a Nurpur Police team.
According to the state police headquarters, a case has been registered against them under FIR No. 60/25 dated 13 May 2025, under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

“Both women were arrested and further legal proceedings are underway as per due process,” a statement from the police headquarters said.
Channi and Majra, twin panchayats in Kangra district, have long been infamous for illicit ‘lahan’ (locally brewed liquor from jaggery) extraction. For decades, the local populace, including women, have faced frequent arrests for this illegal activity. Despite crackdowns, these areas remain hotspots for illegal brewing.
However, in recent years, with neighbouring Punjab emerging as a major hub for synthetic drug trafficking, locals in these areas have reportedly turned to the more lucrative trade of narcotics and synthetic substances, significantly escalating the problem.
