Two young girls were found dead in a water-filled trench in Samba district, while a nine-year-old boy lost his life in a road accident in Jammu on Sunday, officials said.
The victims, Asiya (10) and Tahira (9), were found in a ditch in Lower Birpur, located in the Bari Brahmana area of Samba.
Officials said the girls, who belonged to nomadic families from Anantnag district in south Kashmir, had gone out to graze their animals on Saturday evening but did not return. Their families and locals searched for them, but they remained missing until their bodies were discovered in the trench.
Initial investigations suggest that the girls may have accidentally fallen into the water and drowned. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination, officials said.
In a separate incident, Pranev Sharma (9) died in a collision between a scooty and an army crane at Patyari in Bishnah, on the outskirts of Jammu.
Officials said the child was riding with his father, who was driving the two-wheeler when the accident occurred. Pranev died on the spot, while his father sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
