The Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested two men for allegedly attempting to extort ₹2 crore from an NRI family by posing as associates of the notorious gangster Goldy Brar. The operation was carried out by a specialised team from Nakodar, led by Superintendent of Police (Detective) Vineet Ahlawat and supported by several senior officers, including DSP Onkar Singh Brar and CIA in-charge Inspector Pushp Bali.
The case was registered on a complaint lodged by one Baljinder Kaur, who is a resident of Shankar village. She alleged that Pavittar Singh, who is her husband, received a threat call from an international number on January 12, 2026.
The caller, claiming to be from Brar’s gang, gave them a ten-day deadline to pay the money and threatened them with "serious consequences" if they didn’t.
The intimidation escalated on 21 March when the couple’s son, Ranjit Singh, who lives abroad, received a WhatsApp message and a follow-up call demanding ₹1.5 crore within 24 hours. To prove they were watching the family, the suspects reportedly cited specific details about their property and vehicles, including their Fortuner SUV, and threatened to open fire on their home.
Following threats, an FIR has been registered under sections 308(5) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Sadar Nakodar police station. Both the suspects are in custody and are to appear in court, where the police are set to remand them for further interrogation. The detectives are working to find out if the suspects have any real connection to the criminal syndicates or if they have targeted other families in the region in the same way.
