Police in Lucknow arrested two men on Thursday for allegedly forging documents to illegally take possession of a house belonging to a former Army major.
Officials said the multi-crore house in Indira Nagar belonged to late Major Bipin Chandra Bhatt, who passed away in 1994, leaving behind a son and two daughters. However, after the untimely demise of his son and one of the daughters, Anjana was Major Bhatt’s sole surviving family member.
But, the two men, Balwant Kumar Yadav, a resident of Narayanpur, and Manoj Kumar Yadav of Daudpur, allegedly took advantage of the fact that Anjana had been living in a rehabilitation centre for several years after being diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Chandauli Superintendent of Police, Aditya Langhe, said that taking advantage of her condition, the accused prepared forged documents and attempted to transfer the property in their names, even putting up a board at the house.
“After losing her family, Anjana developed schizophrenia and has been living in a rehabilitation centre for several years,” he said.

The police chief said he was approached by a senior police officer from Lucknow, after which the Saiyadraja police station was directed to take action.
Anjana also met the state Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, on Wednesday over the matter.
Following the accused’s arrests, police restored possession of the Indira Nagar house to the rightful owner within 24 hours, officials said.
Langhe said legal action has been initiated against the accused for grabbing property using fake documents and further investigation is underway.
