Punjab Police has busted an ISI-backed terror and cross-border arms smuggling module in Amritsar. Two accused have been arrested and several weapons, including rifles, pistols and cartridges, have been recovered, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab Police said.

Initial probe suggest that the accused were in touch with foreign-based handlers through social media. The module was also allegedly involved in radicalisation activities and spreading anti-India and anti-police narratives online.

In a post on X, the DGP said that "An FIR has been registered at PS Gharinda, #Amritsar Rural. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and dismantle the entire network. @PunjabPoliceInd remains steadfast in its zero-tolerance approach against terrorism, illegal arms trafficking and organized crime."

During the operation, the police recovered one AK-47 rifle along with two magazines and 36 live cartridges. Three sophisticated Glock 9mm pistols were also seized from the accused.

Earlier, on February 22, the Counter Intelligence unit of Jalandhar, in a joint operation with Counter Intelligence SAS Nagar, arrested two key suspects linked to the IED (RDX) blast at the Nalagarh Police Station in Himachal Pradesh on January 1, 2026.

According to the police, the arrested accused have been identified as Mahavir alias Kaka and Manpreet alias Mani, both residents of SBS Nagar in Punjab. During the operation, one 9mm Glock pistol and live cartridges were recovered from their possession.

Initial probe revealed that the accused were working under the directions of foreign-based masterminds Gopi Nawashehria and Jassi Kulam. Both are said to be associated with the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International.

Further investigations found that the accused and their associates had received consignments containing IEDs (RDX) and hand grenades on the instructions of their foreign handlers. One of these IEDs was allegedly used to carry out the blast at the Nalagarh Police Station.
