Two people, including a tipper truck driver, were seriously injured after the vehicle skidded off the road in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, on Saturday, police said. The injured have been identified as Ashwini Kumar, the driver of the vehicle, and Ajay Kumar, officials said.
The accident took place when the tipper truck was travelling from Palahi to Nadaun. Police said Ashwini lost control of the vehicle, which veered off and fell along the Sujanpur-Nadaun road.
After receiving information about the accident, Sujanpur police reached the site and began a rescue operation. The front part of the tipper truck was badly damaged, and both injured men were trapped inside the vehicle, officials said.
Ashwini was rescued after responders cut open the front portion of the truck, while several local residents also helped in the rescue effort. Both injured persons were taken to Sujanpur Hospital, where doctors provided first aid.
Later, Ashwini was referred to Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College for further treatment, while Ajay is currently undergoing treatment at Sujanpur hospital, police said. Police said a case has been registered under relevant sections, and further investigation into the accident is underway.
