A day after a road accident in J&K' s Doda claimed 9 lives , two people were killed and 15 others injured in another mishap in Ghumri, Drass area of Kargil district. The accident took place when a passenger vehicle was negotiating sharp curve on the hilly treacherous road in the area.
As per the first information coming from this remote area of Ladakh UT, a Tempo Traveller en route from Leh to Srinagar met with an accident at Ghumri Drass when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge into a deep gorge. As a result, all 17 passengers onboard sustained injuries.Two of them died on the spot, while eight are reported to be in critical condition. Six others suffered minor injuries and were shifted to Drass Hospital. The driver escaped unhurt.
SHO Drass, Manzoor Hussain Mir, said that the accident occurred around 5:30 in the morning. He confirmed that two people died on the spot, and 15 others were taken to the hospital.The identities of the deceased and injured have not yet been ascertained.
Following the incident, a swift rescue operation was launched by the Police, Indian Army, and civil administration and rescue teams ensured prompt evacuation of the injured.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Drass, Vishal Atri, confirmed the fatalities. Two people have died in the mishap. The rest of the injured have been shifted to Kargil for advanced medical care,” he said, adding that the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
As per the reports, the overspeeding vehicle lost control at a sharp turn resulting in the skidding of the vehicle wherein two persons lost lives while others were injured.
The injured were evacuated to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Drass and later referred to District Hospital (DH) Kargil for treatment of multiple injuries.On the heels of the incident, prompt rescue operation was launched by Police, Army, and civil administration. Authorities have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated investigation in this regard
