Two persons lost their lives and two others were injured after a JCB excavator skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge near Shimla on Friday, according to the police.
The deceased have been identified as Sukhdev Singh Rana (31) of Rupnagar district in Punjab and Hari Nam Singh (30) from Kinnaur district. The injured — Charanjeet Singh (26) from Punjab and Neeraj Kumar (20) from Bihar — are currently receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla.
According to officials, the accident occurred near the Jwala Mata temple when Sukhdev, who was operating the excavator, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid and fall into the gorge. All four occupants were immediately rushed to IGMC, where doctors declared Sukhdev and Hari Nam brought dead.
Shimla SSP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi confirmed the fatalities and said a case has been registered. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
