At least two persons were killed after a truck rolled down a gorge and caught fire near Gangroo in the Ramsoo area of Ramban district on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) on Saturday, officials said. Officials said the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while travelling on the highway. It skidded off the road and plunged into the gorge.
Shortly after the accident, the vehicle was engulfed in flames, creating panic among other travellers in the area.
According to police officials, rescue teams and local volunteers immediately rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The two charred bodies were recovered from the burnt wreckage of the truck after the flames were doused.
The deceased are believed to be the occupants of the vehicle.
However, officials were unable to identify the bodies due to severe burning at the time of filing this report.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident is underway.
