Two people tragically lost their lives early Saturday morning when their Alto car (HP-30-7063) fell into a gorge near Behna on the Luhri-Karsog road in Anni subdivision. The accident, which occurred around 4 am, left the vehicle severely damaged, and both occupants were pronounced dead at the accident scene.

The victims have been identified as Tikam Ram (42), son of Dayal Singh from Saranthi Panchayat, and Gurdev (27), son of Ramesh from Vahan village, Gwalpur, Karsog. Reports suggest they were travelling for some important work when their car lost control and veered off the road.

Upon receiving the information, the police immediately reached the site, where the bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem. Anni DSP Chandershekhar said an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, tourists had a narrow escape when a tempo traveler they were travelling in experienced brake failure on the Aut-Luhri National Highway-305 near Sojha in Banjar subdivision. The vehicle, which was returning from Jalori Pass towards Jibhi, bumped into another tempo traveller before coming to a stop in the middle of the road, averting a major tragedy. Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported.

Local residents, who promptly informed the police and the administration, highlighted that the stretch from Jalori Pass to Jibhi is infamous for fatal accidents. The combination of steep descents, narrow roads, and technical issues such as black spots and lack of crash barriers make it particularly hazardous. Despite being declared a National Highway over a decade ago, the road remains in poor condition.

Rajnish, a local resident, pointed out that more than 100 accidents have occurred in the past seven years between Sojha and Ghiyagi, resulting in around 200 fatalities. He also added that brake failures, often caused by overheating due to drivers’ inexperience with mountain terrain, are a common factor in these accidents.
