Two young men lost their lives and two others were injured after a car and a truck collided head-on near Kotra Kalan village on the Mansa-Bhikhi road on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Jatin Verma (26) of Mansa and Surinder Pal Singh (30) of Akkanwali village. The injured, Avtar Singh and Jashandeep Singh, both from Mansa, were rushed to hospital for treatment.
The collision was so powerful that the car was reduced to a mangled heap of metal.
According to preliminary information, the four friends were travelling from Mansa towards Bhikhi on their way to offer prayers at the Kali Mata temple in Patiala. Police said the truck, coming from the opposite direction, allegedly took a sudden turn, went out of control and rammed into their car.
Surinder Pal Singh worked as a healthcare worker at a private hospital in Mansa. He is survived by his parents and an elder brother. His father serves as a registered medical practitioner (RMP) in Akkanwali village.
Jatin Verma was also employed at a private hospital in Mansa. He was the only son of his parents, while his sister is married.
Police have taken the truck driver, identified as Bhola Singh of Balloh village, into custody. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination before being handed over to their families.
