At least two persons were killed and several others, including a woman, were injured after a truck collided with a tractor late on Monday night near the Peerah area of Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, officials said on Tuesday.
According to officials, the accident occurred around 10:35 pm near New Khajuria Dhaba at Peerah when a Rajasthan-registered truck bearing registration number RJ37GA-7418, travelling from Jammu to Srinagar, rammed into a tractor.
According to reports, one person died on the spot after sustaining serious injuries, while two to three others sustained injuries in the accident.
The injured were rushed to the District Hospital, Ramban, where another injured person, identified as Subash, son of Norang Lal and a resident of Rajasthan, was declared dead by doctors.
Meanwhile, Station House Officer (SHO), Chanderkote, Jatinder Singh said a police team rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the accident and launched a rescue operation.
The officer also said the damaged vehicles were later removed from the highway to restore smooth movement of traffic.
Police have identified one of the deceased, while the identity of the other is yet to be revealed. An FIR has been registered at Police Station Chanderkote and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.
