The surrender took place before Palamu Range IG Shailendra Kumar Sinha, Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav, Commandant of CRPF 11th Battalion Yadram Bunkar, and Commandant of SSB 32nd Battalion Rajesh Kumar.

In a major success for Jharkhand Police’s anti-Naxal operations, two senior commanders of the banned outfit Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) — Sub-Zonal Commander Brajesh Yadav alias Rakesh, carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh, and Area Commander Awadhesh Lohra alias Rohit — surrendered before security forces on Wednesday.

The surrender took place before Palamu Range IG Shailendra Kumar Sinha, Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav, Commandant of CRPF 11th Battalion Yadram Bunkar, and Commandant of SSB 32nd Battalion Rajesh Kumar.

The police officials welcomed the rebels with bouquets and presented a symbolic cheque of Rs 5 lakh to Brajesh Yadav as part of the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.

“So far in 2025, a total of 21 Naxal cadres have surrendered. Today, with two more senior leaders laying down arms, the campaign against extremism has gained further strength,” the IG said, urging remaining Naxal operatives to surrender or face decisive police action.

According to police sources, Brajesh Yadav, a native of Kathokatwa village under Bishunpur police station in Gumla district, has been active in extremist activities for nearly two decades.

He was earlier associated with the CPI (Maoist) group and was arrested in 2010. After being released from jail in 2018, he joined JJMP and rose to the rank of sub-zonal commander. He faces 10 criminal cases lodged at Bishunpur and Chainpur police stations.

Awadhesh Lohra, hailing from Banduwa village under Herhunj police station in Latehar, also has five criminal cases against him and is accused in several violent incidents.

The police described their surrender as a major blow to JJMP’s remaining network in the Palamu-Latehar-Gumla belt and reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace and development in the region.
