Two men wanted in connection with a murder case were arrested at Amritsar airport on Saturday shortly after being deported from the United States. Their arrest took place as part of a broader repatriation operation involving Indian nationals deported by U.S. authorities.
A team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rajpura police station was dispatched to Amritsar airport to take the two men into custody. The accused, identified as Sandeep Singh and Pradeep Singh, are residents of Patiala district and had been on the run since 2023 when a murder case was registered against them.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nanak Singh confirmed their arrest and stated that legal proceedings against both individuals have been initiated. Further investigations are underway to establish their activities while in the United States.
Criminal Records and Deportation
Reports indicate that the accused also had criminal records in the United States, which led to their deportation. Upon their arrival at Amritsar airport, the Patiala Police swiftly took them into custody.
Deportation of Indian Nationals from the U.S.
Their deportation was part of a larger repatriation operation involving the return of 119 illegal immigrants aboard a U.S. military C-17 aircraft. The second batch of deportees landed at Amritsar airport on Saturday, with a significant number hailing from different states across India:
- 67 deportees from Punjab
- 33 deportees from Haryana
- 8 deportees from Gujarat
- 3 deportees from Uttar Pradesh
- 2 deportees each from Rajasthan and Maharashtra
- 1 deportee each from Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh
Authorities are now processing these individuals as per immigration and legal protocols. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring the background of all deportees to determine if any have pending criminal cases in India.
Further investigations are ongoing regarding the case of Sandeep Singh and Pradeep Singh, as police work towards securing justice in the 2023 murder case.
