Two individuals were shot dead while another was injured after unknown assailants opened fire at them in Batala, Punjab, late Monday night, police said. The incident took place in Bhoma village of Sri Hargobindpur subdivision.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Batala Mehtab Singh said attackers fired at three men who were out for a walk at the time of the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Kashmir Singh and Jugraj Singh, the SSP said. The injured, also identified as Jugraj Singh, was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
According to preliminary investigation, police have not found any evidence suggesting an extortion angle or prior threat calls linked to the incident, the SSP added.
