A tragedy struck the Welcome region of Delhi as a two-storey old construction building collapsed in the early hours of Thursday, claiming the lives of at least two workers and leaving one critically injured.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 2:16 am in the Kabir Nagar area, has sent shockwaves through the community.
The deceased workers have been identified as Arshad (30) and Tauhid (20), according to authorities. Another worker, Rehan, sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment, battling for his life.
"We received a distress call regarding a building collapse, and our team promptly responded, rushing to the scene," shared Station Officer Anoop in a statement to news agency ANI. "Upon arrival, it was evident that three workers were trapped beneath the rubble."
In the pre-dawn hours, visuals emerged of a dedicated team of rescue officials. Speaking further on the incident, DCP Joy Tirkey expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured that authorities are fully engaged in the rescue and recovery efforts. "Our priority right now is to ensure the safety of those affected and to provide all necessary support to the injured worker and the bereaved families," he stated.
As investigations into the collapse continue, questions loom over the structural integrity of the building and the circumstances that led to its sudden collapse.
