A constable posted in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand, has been removed from service after taking part in a political protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Police said the action was taken with immediate effect.

A departmental investigation found constable Sher Singh guilty of serious misconduct and violating service rules.

Pithoragarh Superintendent of Police Akshay Prahlad Konde said disciplinary action was taken under the provisions of the Uttarakhand Police Act, 2007. Based on the inquiry findings, Singh was dismissed from service.

The SP said the inquiry, along with the examination of official records, confirmed that the constable had breached the Uttarakhand Government Servants' Conduct Rules. He added that strict action was necessary to maintain discipline within the force and preserve public confidence in the police.

Konde also reiterated that the Uttarakhand Police follows a strict policy against indiscipline, misconduct and violations of service regulations.

Sher Singh came into the spotlight after a video of him speaking at the protest went viral on social media. During his address, he announced his resignation and alleged irregularities in state recruitment examinations. He also claimed that question papers for the Uttarakhand Patwari exam were being sold openly.

Police clarified that Singh had already been placed under suspension on July 20. According to officials, he had been absent from duty without permission since June 28.

Authorities further stated that Singh is also named in a case registered in Haridwar last year over allegations related to land grabbing.
