The Uttarakhand government has given a no-objection certificate (NOC) to Sanjeev Chaturvedi, Chief Conservator of Forests and Director of the Uttarakhand Forestry Training Academy in Haldwani, for central deputation to a Joint Secretary-level position in the Lokpal of India.
As per an official communication issued by Additional Secretary Himanshu Khurana on June 13, the state government has formally approved Chaturvedi's candidature for the post advertised by the Lokpal.
The communication was sent to the Under Secretary (Establishment), Lokpal of India, in response to a letter dated April 27, 2026, through which the Lokpal had sought the state government's views on Chaturvedi's application.
The approval was granted after the recommendation of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force), Uttarakhand. The senior officer had forwarded Chaturvedi's application along with supporting documents on May 18, 2026.
"In continuation of your letter dated April 27, 2026, I am directed to say that the state government's no objection/consent is given to the application submitted by Sanjeev Chaturvedi for central deputation to the post of Joint Secretary level in the Institution of Lokpal of India," the letter stated.
The government has also requested the Lokpal authorities to process the application further as per the prescribed rules.
Chaturvedi, a 2002-batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, is currently serving as Chief Conservator of Forests and Director of the Uttarakhand Forestry Training Academy, Haldwani.
His application will now be examined by the Lokpal authorities as part of the selection process for the Joint Secretary-level position. Chaturvedi was awarded the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2015 for his work in public service.
The same year, he was transferred from Haryana to Uttarakhand at his own request after alleging harassment for exposing several corruption cases.
During his tenure as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) at AIIMS between June 2012 and August 2014, Chaturvedi uncovered financial irregularities and exposed widespread corruption. His findings led to nearly 200 corruption-related investigations.
Earlier, while serving in Haryana, he earned recognition for exposing illegal tree felling, wildlife poaching and financial irregularities in plantation schemes.
Despite facing strong political pressure, he received support from the highest constitutional offices. His service was protected through six interventions by former Presidents Pratibha Patil and Pranab Mukherjee.
Chaturvedi has also worked extensively for the conservation of rare Himalayan biodiversity. In recent years, he has promoted the use of artificial intelligence to study the impact of climate change and support environmental research.
