The Uttarakhand High Court on Wednesday allowed the Muslim community to offer Eid prayers at the District Sports Association (DSA) ground in Nainital for a limited time on Thursday.
A division bench of Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Subhash Upadhyay passed the order on a petition filed by the Muslim organisation Anjuman Islamia. The court allowed prayers to be held between 9 am and 10 am on May 28.
The court order helped resolve confusion over the venue for Eid prayers.
Earlier, the Nainital Gymkhana and the District Sports Association had given permission to Anjuman Islamia to use the ground, but later withdrew it.
After this, the district administration said the ground is meant for sports activities and events, and religious gatherings cannot be allowed there. Following this decision, the organisation moved the High Court.
Meanwhile, the district administration has begun preparations to ensure security and traffic management for a peaceful and smooth event.
