The Centre has cleared a ₹363.89 crore project to construct an elevated corridor in Udaipur district, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety along the busy NH-48 highway stretch.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari shared the announcement on social media, stating that the corridor will be built in Kherwara town on the Udaipur–Ratanpur–Shamlaji route, a crucial link connecting Rajasthan with Gujarat.
He noted that the project fulfils a long-standing demand of local residents for an elevated road structure. The initiative is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in Kherwara, which serves as a key commercial hub along the highway and often experiences heavy congestion due to the movement of vehicles between Udaipur and Ahmedabad.

According to Gadkari, the elevated corridor will help separate local traffic from through traffic, allowing vehicles passing through the region to bypass the town. This is expected to reduce travel time and ease pressure on existing roads.
The project will also target accident-prone “black spots” identified along the stretch, contributing to improved overall road safety.
The approval comes as a major relief for residents, addressing a decades-old demand for better infrastructure to manage increasing traffic and enhance commuter safety on this important highway corridor.
