Udhampur gears up for Kailash Kund Yatra starting Aug 30

The holy Kailash Kund is a mythical place of worship to the people of Bhaderwah.

The three-day annual Kailash Kund Yatra is set to commence on August 30 under tight security arrangements in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The yatra will proceed with enhanced security measures, following recent terror incidents in the mountainous belt of Udhampur-Doda over the past two months.

These incidents have heightened the authorities' alertness, ensuring the safety of participants.

"The yatra to the high-altitude lake shrine of Kailash Kund will begin from Udhampur's Dudu area on August 30," an official stated.

This three-day holy pilgrimage, which is thousands of years old, is associated with Vasuki Nag, the presiding deity of Bhaderwah town. The ritual draws thousands of pilgrims to Kailash Kund during its limited procession days between August and September, officials added.

Meanwhile, Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai coordinated all necessary arrangements for the yatra in a meeting with officers and members of civil society in the Dudu subdivision of Udhampur district, an official spokesperson informed reporters.

"The supply of essential commodities, installation of drinking water points along the route from Dudu base camp to Seoj Dhar, and provisions for medical care, transport facilities, tents, and blankets were discussed in detail," Rai stated.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Dudu will serve as the Nodal Officer for all arrangements from the Dudu base camp to Kailash Kund and will establish a control room at Dudu to monitor the smooth conduct of the yatra, he added.

The departmental heads have been instructed to finalize all arrangements well in advance to minimize inconvenience to the pilgrims, officials said.

Medical teams will be deployed at the Dudu base camp and Seoj Dhar to ensure the health and safety of the pilgrims, according to officials.

The pilgrimage attracts participants from various parts of the Jammu division, including Dudu, Basantgarh, Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Chenani, Ramnagar, as well as from Himachal Pradesh.
