The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) Una division has launched a disaster awareness and management training programme for its drivers and conductors. The initiative began on Wednesday with a workshop at Rampur and will continue until May 28.
Under the programme, approximately 15 employees will be trained each day in a total of 13 batches. The training will equip around 190 HRTC employees with essential information and practical skills to effectively respond during disasters or emergencies.
Speaking about the initiative, Una Deputy Commissioner and chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Jatin Lal said the main aim of this initiative is to ensure the active involvement of HRTC employees in disaster response efforts.
“Strengthening grassroots-level preparedness and familiarising participants with fuel storage and management guidelines is a key focus of this initiative,” he added.
The programme includes training sessions on staff mobilisation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid and trauma care, safe evacuation procedures, search and rescue techniques, and the crucial role of first responders during disaster situations.
Describing the training as a significant capacity-building measure under the Disaster Risk Reduction framework, Lal noted that it is aimed at enhancing the efficiency and sensitivity of transport sector employees in handling emergencies.
