An under-construction bridge in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh was reduced to rubble on Tuesday morning after a landslide struck the site. The structure, located on the Holi-Kharamukha road in the Bharmaur assembly constituency, was reportedly nearing completion when the hillside gave way at Sinyur. Fortunately, officials have confirmed that there were no casualties resulting from the collapse.
The local MLA, Janak Raj, told the media that he has instructed the relevant departments to inspect the wreckage. He noted that the bridge was a vital project intended to provide an all-weather alternative route to the Holi region, which is notorious for being cut off from the rest of the province by landslides during the heavy monsoon rains.
Footage capturing the catastrophic incident has already made its way around social media platforms, depicting the exact second when the structure gave in under the pressure of the collapsing material. As per the commissioning of this construction project in the year 2023 at an estimated cost of five crores, the entire effort would have gone waste. There has already been an on-going work for over one year, and any efforts for improving transport links of these isolated communities will be greatly hampered by this disaster.
