Jharkhand High Court today fined Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda an amount of Rs 1.25 lakh.
The penalty has been imposed for mentioning a matter for hearing in the High Court without correcting errors in the petition.
The court, during the hearing of the petition filed by Union Minister Arjun Munda requesting to quash the FIR lodged during the Secretariat protest march held on April 11, 2023, found that the error in the petition had not been rectified.
Despite this, the case was mentioned for hearing in the court, later the case was also heard in the High Court.
The FIR was lodged at Dhurwa police station, Ranchi.
Taking serious note of mentioning a petition for hearing before the court without correcting the errors in it, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1.25 lakh on Arjun Munda.
The court has directed Munda to deposit this amount of fine with the Advocate Clerk Association, Jharkhand High Court.
However, while hearing the case, the court gave immediate relief to Munda and banned coercive action against him. The next hearing of the case is to be held on May 8.
The case dates back to April 11, 2023, when BJP workers marched towards the Jharkhand Secretariat as part of a protest clashed with the police. Case number 107/2023 was registered in Dhurwa police station regarding the matter.
An FIR was registered against 41 named and many unknown people including Union Minister Arjun Munda, former Chief Ministers Babulal Marandi and Raghubar Das, Chatra MP Sunil Kumar Singh, MLA Amit Mandal, Sameer Oraon, MP Nishikant Dubey. Arjun Munda has requested the High Court to quash the FIR.
