According to police reports, the bodies of the two individuals, both belonging to non-tribal communities, were discovered at locations identified as Ichamati and Dalda, situated within the confines of the Shella Assembly constituency in Meghalaya. Using Google Maps, Ichamati has been accurately pinpointed.


Two individuals were brutally killed by unidentified assailants in Ichamati, located within the jurisdiction of Shella police station in East Khasi Hills district, on Wednesday evening.

 

The bodies of the deceased individuals, identified as L Esan Sing and L Sujit Dutta, were found at Ichamati and Dalda, respectively, revealed district police chief Rituraj Ravi. 

 

The distressing incident unfolded subsequent to an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rally, spearheaded by the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) and other prominent NGOs in Ichamati, as confirmed by police sources. 

 

The victims, belonging to non-indigenous communities, appear to have been singled out by perpetrators exploiting the turmoil.

 

Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, SC Sadhu, has verified the fatalities, though further particulars are awaited as the investigation unfolds. 

 

Heightened tensions persist in the area, prompting the dispatch of additional security forces. Orders have been issued to Superintendents of Police to intensify patrols and convene peace gatherings in the aftermath of the incident.

 

The process of post-mortem and inquest remains pending, with local law enforcement and additional teams from Shillong poised to carry out the procedures.
