Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa has instructed political parties and candidates to conduct transactions exceeding 10,000 rupees through banks as part of measures to ensure transparency in campaign financing.

In directives issued Tuesday, Rinwa also mandated parties to submit a list of star campaigners within a week, with their expenses to be included in the campaign budget for the upcoming elections.

Campaign expenditure for the Lok Sabha elections is capped at 95 lakh rupees, while for Assembly elections, it is limited to Rs 40 lakh , according to a release from the CEO's office.

Political parties must seek permission for rallies, processions, and other campaign activities, including the use of campaign vehicles, processions, and public meetings, the release stated. Permission from returning officers is required for such activities.

Candidates are required to disclose their email IDs and social media accounts in the affidavit submitted with their nomination papers.

The Election Commission has directed state governments to transfer officers involved in election-related work who have completed three years or are in their home districts, as part of efforts to maintain a level playing field and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

The directives come amid preparations for upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state.
