Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday presented a ₹9.13 lakh crore Budget for the financial year 2026-27, a 12.2 per cent increase over the previous year, with a focus on fiscal discipline, infrastructure, and skill development.
Presenting the Budget in the state Assembly, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said the government remained committed to prudent fiscal management and debt control.
He noted that, in line with the recommendations of the 16th Central Finance Commission accepted by the Centre, the fiscal deficit limit for 2026–27 has been set at three per cent. The ceiling will remain in effect until 2030–31.
Highlighting major allocations, Khanna said 12.4 pc of the total outlay had been earmarked for education and six per cent for health. The agriculture and allied sectors received nine per cent of the Budget.
The minister stressed that capital investment and infrastructure development were crucial for strengthening the state’s economy. He also underlined the importance of generating employment opportunities and equipping the youth with market-relevant skills.
“Individuals possessing technical skills or proficiency in any trade are unlikely to remain unemployed,” he said.
To this end, the government will roll out large-scale, employment-oriented training and skill enhancement programmes in mission mode. Alongside formal education, efforts will be made to strengthen the skill base of young people across the state.
Khanna said the capacity of existing skill development training centres would be expanded, while new centres would be set up in different districts. The initiative will also involve private sector participation.
Under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, skill development and job placement centres will be established across districts. Separate centres for women will also be set up to boost their participation in the workforce, he added.
