A twisted tale of love and murder unfolded in Lucknow as a lawyer’s sinister plot to eliminate his lover's family ended in tragedy. The hitmen, hired by Aaftab Ahmed to target the husband and father of the woman he was allegedly in love with, mistakenly killed an innocent taxi driver, Mohammad Rizwan.
According to police, the incident occurred on December 30 in the Madehganj area, where Rizwan was fatally shot. Police revealed that Ahmed, a practising lawyer, had hired a gang of hitmen to commit the heinous act.
However, in a case of mistaken identity, the gunmen targeted Rizwan instead of the intended victims.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Raveena Tyagi, stated, “We have seized the weapon, the motorcycle used in the crime, three mobile phones, and 14 live cartridges. The three accused, including Aaftab Ahmed, have been arrested and will be presented in court.”
Murder for love gone wrong
Ahmed had allegedly planned the murders as an act of vengeance against his lover’s family, with the aim of targeting her husband and father. The gang of hitmen, led by Yasir, enlisted Krishnakant to carry out the crime. However, confusion led to the killing of Rizwan.
The lawyer had paid an advance of ₹2 lakh to the gang, but following the botched assassination, Ahmed refused to settle the remaining payment, leading to disputes among the conspirators.
The fallout from the crime saw Ahmed and the hired hitmen arrested after the weapon and other incriminating evidence were traced to them. Police investigations revealed the premeditated nature of the act and its tragic consequences for Rizwan’s family.
The case highlights the darker side of interpersonal relationships and the consequences of unlawful actions, as Rizwan’s family mourns the loss of their loved one.
