A 31-year-old man died after falling from the 21st floor of a residential building in Greater Noida while allegedly attempting to leave his flat through the balcony to avoid an argument with his wife.
The incident occurred earlier this week at Centurion Park Tropical Garden Society in Greater Noida.
The deceased, identified as Harshit Lavania, had married in 2024. He and his wife had been living separately for the past six months following a dispute. Lavania was staying alone in a rented flat at the society.
On the day of the incident, his wife reached the flat and knocked on the door. Police said Lavania did not open it, allegedly because he feared another confrontation. His wife called out to him and attempted to speak with him, but he did not respond.
She subsequently contacted the society’s security staff and asked them to open the door. During this time, Lavania reportedly tried to move from the balcony to the floor below in an effort to leave the flat.
He lost his balance and fell to the ground, sustaining critical injuries. Residents and others at the complex took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Lavania’s family said he had been under mental stress because of the continuing dispute with his wife.
No complaint had been registered in connection with the incident at the time of the latest update. Police were questioning his wife and reviewing CCTV footage from the residential complex as part of the inquiry.
