UP Police staff gets warning over social media misconduct

Uttar Pradesh Police has directed all department and office heads to identify personnel violating the state police's social media policy and initiate immediate departmental action against them, according to an official communication.
 
In a circular issued on May 15, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Abhitabh Yash said the "Social Media Policy-2023" had already been implemented for all officers and employees of the Uttar Pradesh Police through a DGP circular issued on February 8, 2023.
 
The communication said it had come to notice that several serving and trainee police personnel were violating the policy by posting objectionable content and reels on social media platforms.
 
It said such activities were not only affecting official work but were also adversely impacting the dignity and image of the Uttar Pradesh Police.
 
The circular instructed all department and office heads to identify such personnel under their respective jurisdictions and ensure immediate departmental action against them for violating the policy.
 
The order also directed authorities to submit a monthly report in a prescribed format regarding action taken against erring police personnel.
 
Copies of the objectionable posts along with their URLs are also to be preserved for official records, it added.
 
The communication stated that the directions had been issued after approval from the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh.
