Uttar Pradesh plans to invest nearly Rs 50,000 crore in seven new expressway projects over the next 2-3 years. These expressways will connect about 30 districts to the state's growing network of expressways, according to a senior government official.
The total length of these seven expressways will be 866 km, and the UP cabinet has already approved the projects.
Currently, Uttar Pradesh has the largest network of expressways in India, both operational and under construction. These new projects will contribute to the state's goal of reaching a $1 trillion economy.
The seven expressways will link about 56 districts, or 75 per cent of the state’s total districts, to a world-class expressway network. This will improve connectivity between these areas, the state capital Lucknow, and the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), benefiting both passengers and cargo.

The proposed expressways include:
- Chitrakoot Link Expressway (120 km)
- Jhansi Link Expressway (100 km)
- Jewar Link Expressway (76 km)
- Vindhya Expressway (320 km)
- Vindhya Purvanchal Link Expressway (100 km)
- Agra Lucknow Expressway-Purvanchal Expressway Link (60 km)
- Agra Lucknow Expressway-Ganga Expressway Link (90 km)

In addition to these projects, five expressways are already operational in Uttar Pradesh, covering over two dozen districts. These are:
- Yamuna Expressway (165 km)
- Agra-Lucknow Expressway (302 km)
- Purvanchal Expressway (340 km)
- Bundelkhand Expressway (296 km)
- Gorakhpur Link Expressway (91 km)
The Ganga Expressway, a 594 km project, is also under construction and is expected to be completed by March-April 2025.
Together with the five operational expressways (1,194 km) and the Ganga Expressway, the total expressway network in Uttar Pradesh will stretch to 1,788 km. Once the seven new expressways are completed, this will increase to 2,654 km.
The rapid development of infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh is helping drive growth in various industries, such as real estate, housing, furniture, and construction materials, says Gaurav Sinha, head of Berger’s Sandila (UP) unit.
Additionally, Uttar Pradesh has proposed developing two new regions for religious, cultural, and heritage tourism: the Prayagraj-Chitrakoot Development Region and the Varanasi-Vindhya Development Region.
