Fresh snowfall and rain lashed Kashmir as hailstorms damaged orchards and crops. MeT forecasts more rain and thunderstorms in coming days.

The upper reaches of North and South Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Saturday while rains lashed the plains, with the MeT department forecasting more rain and thunderstorms in the coming days.

As per reports, Razdan Pass and the upper reaches of Tulail Valley received a fresh spell of snowfall after a western disturbance affected large parts of the Union Territory.

Meanwhile, early morning rainfall lashed widespread areas of Central and South Kashmir.

A hailstorm accompanied by gusty winds also hit parts of North Kashmir, causing damage to apple orchards and standing crops.

Officials said reports of damage to houses, public infrastructure, crops, orchards, and livestock have been received from different parts of the Valley. Assessment teams appointed by the government will evaluate the losses.

The erratic weather conditions also caused waterlogging in low-lying areas and affected traffic movement.

The MeT department has forecast similar weather conditions to prevail over the next few days.

As per the fresh forecast, dry weather conditions are expected during afternoon hours from May 23 to May 25; however, there are chances of light rainfall over scattered places towards late afternoon.

From May 26 onwards, the weather is expected to remain dry for at least a week. It is pertinent to mention that the erratic weather conditions have caused damage worth crores in the Valley since May 10.
