Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, located in Neredmet, was taken down by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), assisted by the police force, in a secret operation at night on Thursday, June 18, after receiving reports regarding its lack of permission for erection.
The demolition of the statue took place under high-level security cover provided by members of the local police force, the Special Operations Team (SOT) and the armed police force present at the spot. The job of dismantling the statue was carried out using a crane.
Based on reports from various sources, the intervention occurred after verification proved that the statue was erected without the necessary clearance from the GHMC. Some people who opposed the process tried to stop it and held a demonstration, leading to the arrest of a few people by the police to avoid escalation of the situation.
The issue caused some tension among the people living in the area who came out to oppose the removal process. But, eventually, the police were able to handle the situation without much problem.
Confirmation was received regarding the safety of the statue storage, and that legal processes will be undertaken in the future. Everything has remained calm in the place, as the police keep monitoring the place.
