A tragic accident occurred at the Lachhiwala toll plaza on the Haridwar-Dehradun road early Monday morning when a speeding dumper truck rammed into multiple vehicles, leaving two people dead.
According to police, the tipper truck, coming from Dehradun, crashed into three cars waiting in line at the toll plaza at approximately 7:30 am. The impact created chaos at the site, with one of the vehicles being completely mangled as it was crushed between an iron pillar and the dumper.
Emergency responders, including police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, faced significant difficulty in extracting the bodies from the wreckage and clearing the damaged vehicles from the scene.
The two deceased individuals were identified as Ratanmani Uniyal and Pankaj Kumar, both residents of Dehradun. They were on their way to Tehri to resume work after the weekend when the accident took place. Authorities confirmed that both victims were employed at the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Tehri.
The driver of the dumper truck has been taken into custody, and initial investigations suggest that either brake failure or excessive speeding may have led to the crash. However, a detailed inquiry is ongoing.
The occupants of the other two cars struck by the truck escaped unharmed. Police have informed the families of the deceased, and further legal proceedings are underway.
