The Uttarakhand government has introduced a major reform in its pension scheme, ensuring faster and improved support for senior citizens. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that elderly individuals can now apply for the Uttarakhand Old Age Pension six months before turning 60.

Applications can be submitted on the Social Welfare Department's pension portal, and pensions will start immediately after they reach the age of 60.

Key Details of the Uttarakhand Old Age Pension Scheme

  • Eligible individuals can apply when they are 59 years and six months old.
  • Pensions will begin at the end of the month in which the applicant turns 60.
  • The monthly pension amount has been increased from ₹1,200 to ₹1,500 to provide better financial support to the elderly.

Streamlined Process for Timely Benefits

Speaking during an online pension disbursement event, CM Dhami shared that pensions were approved and disbursed for individuals who became eligible between September and October 2024. This marks the first time that old-age pensions in Uttarakhand are being processed immediately as applicants turn 60, ensuring timely benefits.

"The streamlined process now allows senior citizens to receive their pensions without delays. Both elderly spouses are eligible for pensions, further strengthening support for families," CM Dhami stated.

Focus on Welfare and Development

CM Dhami emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring the benefits of welfare schemes reach the most disadvantaged sections of society.

He also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of the third decade of the 21st century being the "decade of Uttarakhand," noting significant progress in the state’s development.

Achievements in Uttarakhand

  • Uttarakhand topped NITI Aayog's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) rankings.
  • The state has witnessed a decline in the unemployment rate and improvements in ease of living.

Widespread Campaign to Identify Beneficiaries

The Social Welfare Department conducted an extensive campaign across districts to identify eligible individuals aged 60 and above. As of October 1, 12,000 eligible individuals were identified, with their details compiled for timely pension approvals.

Social Welfare Secretary Neeraj Khairwal shared this information with the Chief Minister during the event.

This Uttarakhand pension for elderly initiative marks a significant step towards improving the quality of life for senior citizens and reflects the government’s dedication to social welfare.
