The weather department has issued a red alert for very heavy rain in parts of Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region on Sunday. Areas like Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar are expected to receive intense rainfall.
An orange alert has also been issued for parts of the Garhwal region—including Dehradun, Tehri, and Pauri—as well as Bageshwar and Pithoragarh in Kumaon.
District officials have been told to stay alert and take all necessary precautions. This includes restricting unnecessary movement, acting quickly during emergencies, and sharing information in case of an emergency.
All police stations and outposts must keep disaster equipment and wireless sets ready, said a letter from Deputy Secretary Shivshankar Mishra of the State Emergency Operation Centre.
Disaster management teams have been asked to remain on high alert. Departments like NHAI, PWD, PMGSY, and CPWD have been told to be prepared for quick road-clearing if landslides or blockages occur.
Revenue police officers, village development officers, and panchayat staff must stay in their assigned areas. The letter also stated that no official should switch off their mobile phones during this period.
Tourists heading to higher Himalayan areas should not be allowed to travel in such weather. Machines and tools should be kept ready in landslide-prone zones in case of emergencies.
