With the start of Chaitra Navratri and the Hindu New Year on Thursday, talks of a cabinet expansion in Uttarakhand have picked up pace. Discussions are taking place both within the government and the BJP organisation about expanding the cabinet of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami during this auspicious time. At present, five ministerial posts in the cabinet are vacant.

Sources said the performance of MLAs is being carefully reviewed for possible inclusion in the cabinet. Along with this, more than 24 leaders may be given responsibilities as 'Daitvadhari', which are considered equivalent to Ministers of State.

Sources further said several rounds of talks have already taken place with the party’s national leadership regarding the expansion. Once coordination between the government and the organisation is complete, both cabinet appointments and Daitvadhari roles could be finalised. The announcement may come during Navratri itself.

It is important to note that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and state BJP president Mahendra Bhatt have recently hinted more than once that a cabinet expansion is coming soon.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended his greetings to the people of the state on the Hindu New Year, Vikram Samvat 2083. He wished everyone prosperity, good health and fresh energy in their lives.

In a post on X, he said, “Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the residents of the state on the Hindu New Year. May Vikram Samvat 2083 bring happiness, prosperity, good health and new energy into the lives of all of you. I pray to God that this New Year establishes new dimensions of development, well-being and prosperity for the state, and brings progress and joy to the life of every family."

In another post, Dhami also greeted people on the first day of Chaitra Navratri. He paid tribute to Goddess Shailputri, the first form of Goddess Durga worshipped during the festival.

He wrote, “Salutations to She who grants desired boons, with the crescent moon as her crown. Mounted on the bull, bearer of the trident, Shailputri, the glorious one. Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the residents of the state on the first day of the sacred Chaitra Navratri, dedicated to the worship of Mother Shailputri. May Mother Shailputri, the presiding deity of patience, unwavering resolve, and auspiciousness, bless your life to always be filled with happiness, prosperity, and joy.”
