Three people, including the former president of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, were killed after being hit by a speeding truck in Rishikesh, police said on Sunday.
The victims were leaving a wedding reception at a resort and were about to get into their car when the truck struck them near Natraj Chawk. The truck also damaged several parked vehicles outside the resort.
One of the victims, Gurjit Singh, died at the scene, while Trivendra Singh Panwar and another person, Jatin, later died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
The truck driver fled after the incident but was arrested by police on Monday morning.
Trivendra Singh Panwar, a key figure in the Uttarakhand statehood movement, had served as the president of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal.
