In an ongoing crackdown against unregistered religious institutions, authorities in Uttarakhand sealed 15 illegal madrasas in Sitarganj and Kashipur on Tuesday. The operation, conducted under tight security, is part of a broader state initiative to regulate unauthorised educational institutions.

The sealing of these madrasas was carried out in the presence of a heavy police force, under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Khatima) Ravindra Bisht and Circle Officer Bhupendra Singh Dhoni. Officials confirmed that twelve madrasas were shut down in Kashipur, while three were sealed in Sitarganj.

"The operation is still underway, and further actions are being taken against institutions that do not meet legal requirements," Bisht stated.

Authorities have cited non-registration with the Uttarakhand Madrasa Board and the absence of essential legal documents as the primary reasons for sealing these institutions.

"These madrasas have been found operating without the necessary approvals and documentation, making them unauthorized institutions under state regulations," Bisht added. Earlier this month, a similar crackdown in Dehradun district resulted in the sealing of 15 madrasas that lacked mandatory clearances.

The state government launched a verification drive against madrasas in February following complaints that many were being operated without proper documentation. Authorities have intensified scrutiny to ensure compliance with state laws and maintain educational standards.

The government has reiterated its commitment to regulating religious educational institutions to ensure transparency, legality, and adherence to state norms.
